PostAWeek 19: Headlines from the Austen Jazzette – Classified Ads and Washington’s Correspondence By David “Quite the Huckster” Dysart

PostAWeek 19: Headlines from the Austen Jazzette – Classified Ads and Washington’s Correspondence
By David “Quite the Huckster” Dysart

Something quite a bit different today. Back in 2012, I started my excursion of acting (with http://heartlandplayers.org/). It was with the show Sense and Sensibility. One of the scenes in the show involved Eleanor reading a newspaper. Ever the writer, I volunteered (a venture I shared with our Colonel Brandon). Now, I couldn’t just write scraggly lines across the paper and be done with it. Oh no, these had to have legitimate writing on them!

Like I said, at least one other one was written by another cast member, but I don’t have a picture of that one. I also might have written another one, but if I did, it has been lost to the world by now. Either way, they were a blast to write at the time (plus I think I did it during work day, so it got me out of lifting heavy things).

The first one is just some classified ads from Britishy pop culture type stuff.
The second one is a trashy tabloid-style article about how George Washington sold soul to win the Revolutionary War.

For the Classified ad, these references are:
Doctor Who (I changed from “cancer” because coincidentally, my goofing around fit rather well with what happened with the show)
Benny Hill
The Hobbit (as Gandalf)
Lord of the Rings
Dr. Frankenstein
Pride and Prejudice
Sense and Sensibility (How meta is that?!?!?!!?!)

With the 35th of America’s anniversaries, new revelations of its fight for freedom have met light. Austen Jazzette’s own Charles Dickens has found correspondence between General George Washington and Satan (Lucifer, the fallen angel for all the pagan and non-Anglican readers). While these letters star off innocent enough, Washington begins expressing concerns to the Angel of Darkness about the stout resolve of British foot soldiers, the strategic brilliance of its generals, and the sound logic of its diplomatic convoys. That is when Beelzebub began making his hard sell.

It has been long-known that American soldiers were selling their souls for black powder and soles, but even the random colonel bartered their souls for small military victories (Bunker Hill, anyone?), but the Dark Prince was about to broker his biggest deal since Carthage came in, riding his elephants.

While the turncoat Washington cited his strong religious resolve (though his choice of pen pals would raise doubt to this claim), eventually, the Horned King wore the feeble-minded Washington down. Washington’s letters took a distinct turn as America’s odds of winning continued to decrease.

Finally, the Low One made his offer, two offers in fact, and it was Washington’s choice...

For the price of Washington’s soul and for 3/5ths of all the souls of his progeny, the Red Beast would turn the tides of the war in favor of the Americans.

Correspondance between the two stopped for nearly a fortnight before Hell’s general reconnected with the inexperienced Washington. He had already replanned his strategy with a new deal, a deal that would help shape the world for decades to come...

For the immortal soul of every soldier on the American side lost in the war from the start of the deal, the American victory was assured. Being quite the huckster himself, Washington saw the potential of the Serpent to prolong the war to increase the soul count. Washington agreed with the added stipulation that the Beast would expedite the war with limited loss of American life. In return, he would sacrifice British

By David “Cranial Pain Orgy” Dysart

Tom and Chuck were transcribed in front of an imaginary audience

Chuck: Why, hello there, PostAWeek reader. We have quite the post for you today.

Tom: That we do, Chuck. /shot

Chuck: Woah, Tom, take it easy with the shots. The show just started.

Tom: Which means we don’t have any time to waste! /shot /shot We didn’t have anytime for pregaming, so we have to hit the ground running!

Chuck: Just pace yourself. We’re going to be hear a while.

Tom: Alright. I’ll make a deal with you. Every time I want to take a shot, you can take it instead. /sho

Chuck: Here, here. Give it to me. /shot

Tom: Well, folks. In celebration of yesterday’s Mothers Day, we’re going to be celebrating mothers everywhere and looking back at our old Mothers Day posts from the Bloggaday...

Chuck: ...

Tom: /sh

Chuck: Come on. /shot Oh, goodness, that was terrible. What was that?

Tom: Absinthe.

Chuck: Is that really alcoholic or something?

Tom: Nah. I just didn’t want to spring for something really expensive, so it doesn’t taste really good. /shot /sho

Chuck: Don’t do two! Paul, is he screwing with me?

Paul: Nah, at worst, it’s like 130 proof.

Tom: Did you want to take this one instead of me?

Chuck: ...

Tom: /sh

Chuck: Geeze. Give it here. /shot

Tom: Taste any better this time ‘round?

Chuck: Yeah, actually. I’m feel... Feelin pretty goo-hckkp-d.

Tom: Yeah, I bet. /sh

Chuck: Well, nowholdon... Jush vig it heer. /shot

Tom: Would you like to introduce our first clip?

Chuck: Ahaha. Yesh. Wai. Yesh. Yesh. Dammit

Tom: You can do it, Chuck.

Chuck: Se ye.

Tom: Good jocb, Chuck.

Chuck: Thanks, yooouuuu. /shot

Tom: Here, Chuck. Just take this pillow and go lie down.

Chuck: Shanx, Tom. You’re amazing. I luv you.

Tom: And I love your wife, Chuck. Just go to bed. No no, don’t fuss. Here.

Chuck: /shot

Tom: Well, folks. In 2010, Bloggaday author ran a special Mothers Day post. Let’s take a look at that now.

Chuck: /Snore

/CLIP

Another year has come and gone. A changing of the seasons has brought us another Mother’s Day. I hope all you Mothers out there have a great day. Because if there is one thing you Mothers deserve, it’s a great Mother’s Day.

/clip

Tom: Oooo, goodness. Our PostAWeek author was getting a little suggestive. Let’s see how the rest of the post went...

Chuck: Tom, get the bushet!

/CLIP

So be lazy all you Mothers, tucked in bed, perhaps some breakfast in there. Maybe you can read a book all you Mothers. Huckleberry Finn is always a good choice. You deserve some candy, you Mother. Suckers are always a great candy, especially when they have those tootsie rolls in them. Maybe you can go see a comedy show tonight, you Mothers. Tucker, Chris Tucker from the Rush Hour fame is a funny guy. Maybe you could have America’s favorite food, you Mothers. Smuckers would probably be my choice of jelly for you guys though. All in all, you just need to rest you Mothers. Bucker down and just get some R&R.
So to all you Mothers out there, have a great Mother’s Day.

Chuck: Blargh!

Tom: Let it out, Chuck. Just purge your stomach

Chuck: It’s in the rug. Uuhhh.

Tom: Don’t worry, I’ll rub your nose in it later.

Paul: Tom, we’re back.

Chuck: Don’t leave me, ToUrrghlurpm

Tom: Well, folks. As you can guess, such a racy presentation in the well-wishing, our Bloggaday author had to publicly apologize for it.

Chuck: ArhclpurA!

Last Night Me: I’m laying here in bed at 2 o’clock in the morning, but something is weighing on me. It’s such a burden that I can’t even sleep. I did something incomprehensible. I took something good and pure and special, and what did I do? I made a joke out of it. Worst of all? I did it on Mother’s Day. Granted, it wouldn’t have been any better on a holiday like Arbor Day or Pearl Harbor Day, but I don’t know, it just seems wrong. So very wrong.

Tom: HALLELUJA, OUR POSTAWEEK AUTHOR HAS SEEN THE LIGHT! HE RECOGNIZES HIS TRANSGRESSION AND IS SEEKING THE FORGIVING LIGHT OF HI-

Chuck: toooOOOMMM

Tom: FORGIVE ME, MY CONGREGATION. I HAVE A CHILD IN NEED OF MY SERVICES!

Chuck: Shhhhh

Tom: WHAT IS IT, MY LOST FLOCK. WHAT IS IT THAT AILS YOU SO?

Chuck: A hangover. You need to shhhhhhhuuuu

Tom: I’M SORRY, MY CHILD! I CANNOT CONTAIN MY LOVE. I CANNOT – I WILL NOT CONTAIN MY ENTHUSIAM FOR THE WORD OF MOTHERS DAY COMING RIGHT NOW!

/CLIP

I just reread that, after all, how can I expect you to do so if I can’t even bring myself to do so? I’ve got to say, it was pretty rough. I want to say I’m sorry. I actually threw up a little bit when I read it. I just can’t believe I went that far, just for a joke. I actually endorsed Smuckers over Concord jelly. There simply aren’t words to describe how sorry I am. I can only hope by giving the subject its own spot on my coveted Bloggaday, I can start repairing the broken trust. I promise that in the future, I will strive to be a better person in not only these matters, but in every aspect of my life. Thank you and have a nice day.

Chuck: Ugh, it feels like someone stuck tire pump in my eyeball and pumped it until my head exploded in a cranial pain orgy

Tom: That is quite possible the most horrible and atrocious thing I’ve ever heard.

Chuck: Sh sh shhhhhh

Tom: Well, while you fetal position away your hangover, I’ll just be over doing OUR job.

Chuck: You do that.

Tom: Well, it looks like the Bloggaday author finally manned up AND REPINTED FOR HIS SMUCKERS SIN!

Chuck: Not cool! Inside voice.

Tom: Since we’re ridiculously over our word count, I guess we’ll just send you on with the same words of wisdom that closed the Bloggaday 84/85 duo. Straight from the Bloggaday author himself,

Morning Me: That was a rather refreshing nap. Fell asleep at 5 and woke up at 7. Newton took sporadic 2 ours naps throughout the day rather than sleep, didn’t he? Purple garden spades taste lemony 0_o

Hi, this is PostAWeek author, David Dysart. I just thought I would give all of you dedicated readers a little inside baseball on this week’s post.
I’ll be honest with you. I was having problems coming up with a post for this week. I have a letter I need to write for a friend, which I was going to do Sunday and post it, but it didn’t end up happening.
Then I got this idea of doing a phone-a-thon style post where Tom and Chuck hosted clips from the Mothers Day Bloggadays. Then I was going to slowly go through the stage of Tom getting plastered, sobering up, sick, hangover. When I started writing it though, I thought it would be funny with Chuck getting drunk. Took a lot more words than I was hoping though.
Anyways, that’s kind of the nuts and bolts for this post (though I will admit, I forgot that my public apology was for the Smuckers comment).

PostAWeek 17: The Davidian Blog - Why I Harrangue and The Funural Job pt 1 By David “Hey, you want to climb” Dysart

PostAWeek 17: The Davidian Blog - Why I Harrangue and The Funural Job pt 1
By David “Hey, you want to climb” Dysart

Most people who know me know me as a person who harangues them to come climbing. I suppose I could lend some clarity (or I suppose what it will ultimately be, confusion) as to why.

I’ve been working at the Climbing Wall for about 2 years now, and even before then, I’ve been getting people to climb since before then. These reasons vary but there are some consistent ones.

First of all, I’m not the most social of people. I don’t hang out all to often, so the climbing wall is a good place for me in that respect. Give me the opportunity to do so. I’m also pretty terrible when it comes to scheduling hanging out, so it gives that planning a nice focus.
So, general hanging out.

As a slight expansion on that, there are people who just are genuinely awesome, so I bug them to come climbing when I see them.
So, awesome people (though sometimes this requires coercive measures such as cookies and cinnamon roasted almonds).

I’m also socially awkward enough that when I run into someone, bugging them to come climbing is just an easy bit of conversation
So, awkward conversation filler.

Some of the people I know will never climb, so it’s just a running joke. Only a couple of those folks though.
So, trolling people.

The last major reason that I can think is... because I work at the Climbing Wall. I’m trying to get people to come climbing! I can get sucked into a slow day and just want to chill, but it’s generally more fun when people are actually climbing. It’s even better when it’s a manageable amount of awesome people.
So, the workplace experience.

I’m sure if I gave it more thought, I could elaborate more or come up with another reason or two, but a terrible day doesn’t exactly inspire PostAWeek writing.

I suppose what I can do you tag an old Bloggaday here at the end. Perhaps one of my own climbing wall ones. Well, I’m going to go grab one. I guess we’re both going to be surprised.

Well, definitely not wall-related. It’s part 1 of a 3-part Leverage fan fic I did during the Bloggaday.

Bloggaday 115 – PWND: The Funeral Job 1 of 3

Blood mixed with the young man’s saliva and ran a trail from his lips. A cough cut the stream as a voice came, “Get him up.”
Men in suits grabbed his arms and craned him to his feet, revealing more a boy than a man. “Alright, alright. I’ll get you your money. I just need a little bit more time.”
The man’s head dropped before he turned back to the trio. “You might want to hurry, Mr. Ford. You have the unfortunate luck of owing me the wrong amount of money. He grabbed a handful of scraggly hair and continued into gazeless eyes, “You owe me enough money to physically intervene, but it’s small enough that the message it sends for us to kill you… Well, that does more for our reputation than taking that piss-poor excuse of collateral you put up.” He clinched the hair and sent another blow to the boy’s gut.
As he turned and walked away, he said with a wave of his hand, “You know what to do with him.”
As they began to drag the flailing boy, one of the suited men hooked the sledge resting against the door.

Clad in black but behind a white collar, the baritone rang to a full room. “Nathan was a fine young man, and that is how we should remember him. Some people have expressed to me that they would like to pay their last respects in private, so I’d like to ask all of you to join me in the reception area and celebrate the LIFE of Nathan Ford.”

An older gentleman, grey offering a distinguished shock to either temple, retrieved a browning baseball from his jacket pocket and admired it. He held the door open after a woman left the room. With a nod he went in after she cleared the way.
A few moments after he disappeared, a boy, no more than twelve or thirteen, scanned the reception room from the same doors. He pried one open and slipped in. He ducked in between the rows of pews as the man began to speak, “Hey, Nate. I know it’s been a while. I’m just sorry I couldn’t come sooner or on better terms.”
The man covered the last step to the coffin with a catch in his throat. “I know how much you always loved this ball, and every time I looked at it, I just think about that time at the bar. I don’t know. I always figured I would give it to you sooner or later, so I guess this is my last chance.”

I’ll get to part 2 and 3 in the near future, but the original Bloggaday posts
